This is a ready breakout board with two 5V activated relays (3.3V compatible), and the signal is optoisolated, it is protected :) Easy to use and suitable for beginners, and of course students too. You can check out the tutorial by baelza.bubba in Instructables:

If you need to control AC or high current, high voltage load, this will be the perfect board.

Can I supply 5V to the VCC of the relay by using Arduino 5V, btw, a 12V DC component is connected to the relay and i would like to control the on/off of the component by using Arduino

Hi, sorry we don't have any info for that. Normally the Relay time lag mostly depends on which system you are going to protect that maximum current capability.
